The Puntledge River is named after the Pentlatch or Puntlatch people who lived in at least 90 settlements between the Comox Valley and Nanaimo, British Columbia. The last member of the Pentlatch nation died in the 1970s. La rivière Puntledge porte le nom des Pentlatch ou Puntlatch qui vivaient dans au moins 90 colonies entre la vallée de Comox et Nanaimo, en Colombie-Britannique. Le dernier membre de la nation Pentlatch est décédé dans les années 1970.
