Capturez les loutres de mer dévorant des oursins et ouvrant des coquillages avec une pierre, les wapitis majestueux prenant soin de leurs petits, les oiseaux de rivage fourrageant à marée basse, et laissez-vous inspirer par les cascades et les arbres couverts de mousse dans la forêt tempérée humide. Profitez de ma connaissance approfondie de la région et de mon expertise en photographie de nature pour perfectionner vos compétences. Que vous soyez un.e photographe expérimenté.e ou que vous débutiez, ce voyage vous promet de nombreuses occasions de prendre des photos, et ce, avec des voyageurs partageant la même vision.

Le tour est offert aux mois de mai, juin, juillet, août et septembre seulement. Veuillez contacter Catherine pour vérifier sa disponibilité avant de réserver. Limité à 3 participants par tour pour une meilleure expérience et un moindre impact sur l'environnement et la faune.

Jour 1

Départ de bonne heure de Courtenay (Comox Valley) pour Port McNeill. En chemin nous visiterons une forêt ancienne fréquentée par les wapitis où nous pourrions également voir des loutres de rivière, visons, pygargues à tête blanche, martin-pêcheurs et tétras. Nous déjeunerons dans le village pittoresque de Telegraph Cove. Puis nous nous rendrons à une forêt côtière et marcherons sur le littoral où nous pourrions voir des oiseaux de rivage, des visons et, si nous avons de la chance, des ours noirs et le rare loup côtier. Enregistrement à notre hôtel à Port McNeill en fin d'après-midi.

Jour 2

Nous embarquerons sur un tour en bateau de 6 heures pour photographier les loutres de mer. Au cours du tour, nous pourrions voir des baleines à bosses, des orques, des phoques et des otaries qui sont communs dans cette région. Nous pourrions aussi voir des ours noirs fourrager sur le littoral à marée basse.

Jour 3

Départ définitif de notre hôtel à Port McNeill. Sur le chemin du retour à Courtenay, nous visiterons des endroits dans la forêt tempérée humide pour photographier de belles cascades et des arbres couverts de mousse, où nous pourrions voir des chouettes, des hérons, des biches à queue noire, des loutres de rivière et des visons. Nous serons de retour à Courtenay en fin d'après-midi.

Les services d'une photographe animalière professionnelle, guide pour la durée du tour, un tour en bateau de six heures pour voir les loutres de mer, transport du point de départ et de retour à Courtenay (1), essence, taxe, et grignotines.

(1) L'aéroport de Comox (YQQ) se trouve à 9 km du centre-ville de Courtenay. Il y a des vols directs quotidiens à partir de Vancouver, Calgary et Edmonton.

Hotel à Port McNeill, repas, dépenses personnelles, assurance-voyage (2), coût du voyage et transport de votre point de départ jusqu’à la Vallée de Comox (Comox Valley), frais de visa de touriste (si applicable) et hébergement dans la Vallée de Comox. Les pourboires sont de coutume au Canada et ils sont à votre discrétion.

Matériel recommandé

Appareil photo reflex numérique ou sans miroir, téléobjectif, objectif à grand angle, trépied, cartes de mémoires et piles d'extra, chargeur de piles, chiffon, housse de pluie pour votre appareil photo. Facultatif : extenseur, filtre polarisant, filtre à densité neutre.

L'itinéraire est susceptible d'être modifié en fonction de la météo, de l'état des routes et des sentiers, de l'activité de la faune et du temps passé à chaque endroit. Si nous avons une occasion exceptionnelle de prendre des photos à un endroit, nous resterons plus longtemps et l'itinéraire sera ajusté en conséquence.

En tant que photographe éthique, Catherine Babault s’engage à réduire notre impact sur les écosystèmes uniques de l’île de Vancouver et au-delà : les participants aux ateliers restent sur les sentiers balisés lorsqu’ils sont indiqués et maintiennent une distance sécuritaire avec la faune en utilisant un téléobjectif. En quoi mes ateliers sont-ils différents des autres ?

• Je vis sur l'île de Vancouver. En tant que résidente, je connais très bien la région. Je passe beaucoup de temps sur le terrain, toute l'année, quelle que soit la météo, à pister la faune et à chercher les meilleurs endroits et moments pour photographier la nature.

• En tant que photographe de la nature éthique, je respecte l'environnement, la faune et la flore. Le bien-être et la sécurité des animaux sauvages ont toujours priorité sur les aspirations des participants. Nous limitons au maximum notre impact sur leur habitat.

• J'offre un environnement d'apprentissage sûr et convivial pour tous, quel que soit votre sexe, identité ou orientation sexuelle, ethnicité, culture, âge ou capacités. Je fais moi-même partie d'une minorité.

• Pendant les ateliers, mon temps est entièrement dédié aux participants, pas à mes propres prises de vue.

• Je parle couramment l'anglais et le français.
