The holiday season is fast approaching and this year again I will be a vendor at several Christmas / holiday markets in Courtenay and Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

If you are looking for a unique gift and would like to support an artist, meet me at one of these markets. I will have beautiful nature prints and copies of my photo book Wild Vancouver Island.

• November 15, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the Campbell River Museum, part of the Campbell River Christmas Gift Tour.

• November 23, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Crown Isle Christmas market.

• December 20 and 21, from 10 am to 5 pm, at the Filberg Centre in Courtenay. Hosted by Queneesh Indigenous Community Society. Entry by donation in cash or non-perishable food item.

I have donated this beautiful print of a sea otter to the Fur-Bearer’s Fall Silent Auction. All proceeds will benefit Canadian wildlife. You can bid until Nov. 10

Photos abstraites, truc en photo et atelier du printemps

Loop - Abstract Photography

Les voyages font partie de ma vie alors, après plus de deux ans sur place, il était temps de sortir de l’Île de Vancouver.

Je prépare toujours soigneusement mes aventures : lieux à visiter, sujets à photographier, trajets, etc., c’est pourquoi je me suis rendue à Astoria, en Oregon. Je souhaitais photographier un vieux wagon rouillé, des bateaux abandonnés et des bâtiments marqués par le passage du temps. Ma préparation et le temps consacré sur place pour ce projet ont donné des résultats au-delà de mes attentes. Vous pouvez en commander des tirages.

Comme je mentionne souvent au cours de mes ateliers, il est important de prendre son temps sur le terrain : trouver son sujet, penser à sa composition, bien réglé son appareil en fonction des résultats escomptés (cadrage, profondeur de champs, vitesse d’obturation, etc.) Cela permet d’obtenir de meilleurs résultats que de prendre plein de photos dans l’espoir que l’une d’entre elles sera assez bonne et ensuite tenter de corriger ses défauts en post-traitement.

Ce printemps, reconnectez-vous avec la nature et inscrivez-vous seul(e) ou avec un proche à une excursion photo sur l’Île de Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique ! Latest news!

Since my book Vancouver Island Wildlife, a Photo Journey was released in early October, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Marc Fournier (Culture et Confiture, Radio-Canada), Jacques Dufresne (Boulevard du Pacifique, Radio-Canada), Pierre Chauvin (Radio Victoria), and Sheryl McKay (North by Northwest, CBC). Newspapers, such as the Comox Valley Record, and online media have kindly covered my book release.

Since October, I gave virtual presentations, in English and in French, to several organizations in British Columbia and beyond, and I have many more planned for the coming weeks and months. During the month of December, you are invited to see 15 of my photographs on exhibit at the Bayside Café in Courtenay. From 21 January to 4 March 2021, my photographs will be on display at the Centre culturel francophone in Vancouver.

Also my image of a Bald eagle eating a halibut has been published in the 50th edition of Nature Sauvage, a beautiful magazine issued in Quebec. My work will be on the cover of another magazine in January.

Roosevelt elk on Vancouver Island

One of my best qualities is stubbornness but I prefer to call it determination. Last autumn, I was determined to photograph the Roosevelt elk in its natural habitat. As a wildlife photographer, I had envisioned some compositions, light conditions, behaviours, etc. In order to achieve my goal, I gathered information from different sources, tracked several herds all over the island, stepped in piles of dropping, snow-shooed in mountains and bush-walked with mosquitoes, but I kept on going because dreams do come true when you put the effort.

Earlier this month, I found a herd of cows with calves in a field. Calves were feeding from their mothers. The light and the scenery were perfect. These are my first images, I intend to get more this summer for my upcoming photo book.

While wildlife photography is very rewarding (sometimes), I respect animals and their environment: I use a telephoto lens, I don’t harass animals and I don’t overstay. The last thing I want is to stress them, prevent them from feeding or losing precious energy while fleeing from a pesky photographer. I apply this rule to all animals and I hope you do too.

8 New Nature Photography Workshops on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island Nature Photography Workshops

Eight multi-day workshops have just been added for this summer: 4 in English and 4 in French. They will be given in the greater region of the Comox Valley, in a radius of 60 km. We will cover the art of composition, use of light, creativity and workflow. I will take participants to some of my favourite spots to photograph nature and wildlife. This should be fun!
